This is believed to be Bailey McConnell, who was a resident of Carlisle, Sullivan County, Indiana, when he enlisted on August 23, 1862, in what became Company K ("The White River Rangers") of the 80th Indiana.  Bailey initially served as the company's 3rd Sergeant, the third highest non-commissioned officer (NCO) rank in a Civil War company.  Sergt. McConnell served at that rank for only 2 months before Indiana Governor Oliver P. Morton commissioned him as the new 2nd Lieutenant (third-in-command) of Co. K on November 18, 1862.  He was promoted to fill the vacancy created when 2nd Lieut. Alexander W. Anderson was mortally wounded in action at Perryville, Ky.

2nd Lieut. McConnell held that rank for only 3 months before Governor Morton commissioned him to be the new 1st Lieutenant (second-in-command) of Co. K on February 22, 1863.  This time he was promoted to fill the vacancy created when 1st Lieut. Peter Hill resigned his commission due to disability.  1st Lieut. McConnell then held that rank for the next 20 months, until Governor Morton commissioned him on October 28, 1864, to be the new Captain (commander) of Co. K .  This position became vacant when Capt. Jacob Ragle, who had commanded the company since it was first organized, resigned his commission due to disability.  Capt. McConnell then commanded Co. K for the remaining 8 months of its existence, mustering out of the Army with it on June 22, 1865, at Salisbury, North Carolina.

The photos above show Bailey wearing a dark-blue Federal (Union) Army officer's coat with the epaulettes of a Lieutenant on his shoulders.  At his neck appears to be a keepsake of some sort.  The original tintype photo is believed to have been taken between November, 1862, and October, 1864, during the American Civil War.  However, the image on the right was found pasted to a post-war poster about Co. K.  The poster belongs to Richard Logan Ragle, the Great Great Grandson of Captain Jacob Ragle, and was provided by John Ragle, the Great Grandson of 2nd Sergt. Alonzo O. Ragle, who also served in Co. K of the 80th.
