Alonzo O. Ragle was born June 16, 1837, in Raglesville, Indiana, the 6th child of Peter and Margaret Wadsworth Ragle.  Alonzo had a 160 acre farm near Loogootee, Martin County, Indiana, when he enlisted on August 13, 1862, in what became Company K ("The White River Rangers") of the 80th Indiana.  That was the same day and location where Co. K was first organized.  Jacob's brothers, Captain Jacob Ragle and Private Nathan Ragle, also served in Co. K.  Sergeant Ragle fought at the bloody battle of Perryville (Chaplin Hills), Kentucky, on October 8, 1862, and was subsequently discharged from the Army on January 28, 1863, due to disabilities.

The original image is marked along the upper edge as having been taken in 1878, well after the end of the American Civil War (1861-1865).  The photo belongs to John Ragle, the Great Grandson of Alonzo Ragle.
